I'm Chris, a health and fitness coach who has worked with men and women in their 40s and 50s for 16 years.
Most people I work with are already doing something, going to the gym, running, walking, playing sport, but they're missing one or two things that are quietly limiting their results and will matter more and more as they age.
A complete fitness routine after 40 needs four things:
resistance training to hold onto and build muscle mass,
higher intensity cardio for heart health and anaerobic fitness,
low intensity movement like walking for stamina and recovery, and
mobility work to keep your joints moving freely and avoid injury.
Most people are covering one or two of these well and skipping the others without realising it.
In this video I cover what each of the four components does and why it matters after 40,
plus how much of each you actually need each week, and exactly what to add to your routine depending on whether your main thing is lifting weights, running or cardio, or walking and low intensity activity.
You don't need to find eight hours a week to cover all four. You just need to add the right things to what you're already doing!
